My bf and I are moving out soon. I need to save all extra money that isn't for bills... How can I keep my self from spending it? What are some good tips for not spending money? I do bring my lunch to work, so there is no issue there. I mean, how do I get out of buying things or paying for things. I need to be poor poor for at least 5 months to save what we planned to save. HELP!|||it's discipline really.
if you know you are going to want a soda at work with your byo lunch every day you work- buy a 6pk when you grocery shop - it's way cheaper than $1.25-50 a pop from the machine.
same for coffee. make a thermos and byo instead of stopping at dnd or starbucks.
you can take the money that you would have spent on lunch, soda and coffee and transfer it from your bank acnt in to an ing savings account.
if you have cable with an expanded package- do you really watch all the channels on the expanded pkg or only a small few.... downgrade your package and transfer the savings in to the ing fund
do you have a cell phone package and never come close to that many minutes a month? downgrade your package and deposit the savings...
the little things add up. it's amazing how much you can save by cutting down, but not out, the little things.|||As JB Say's ! Self Discipline and a Written budget ! Take your lunches to work , Don't go grocery shopping when your hungry , make a list and stick to it. Don't buy what you don't need. Stay home on your day's off so you don't have to use Gasoline also if you do have to drive , try to take care of you're business in one trip example: Gas Station , Bank, Groceries, etc. etc.etc. just make a big loup Determine what your bills for rent and utilities are, and budget the rest , put a predetermined percentage from what's left of you money into the savings account and do not touch it.|||self discipline, girl.
i'm putting myself on a $20 a week budget and only spend it on things you need. i have a job that pays every thursday, so if you do that (spend only 20 a week), you'll save a lot more than you think and before you know it, your bank account will be healthy...maybe not as healthy as you want cuz you're paying bills, but trust me. it will be. and when you have enough money in your account, then maybe crank it up to 40 a week, maybe 60
hope it works. it's a good habit to get into and you'll feel a lot better about it|||Just don't spend money you have stick it in a savings account. Either you save the money and move out, Or you spend the money and your stuck where your at. How bad do you want to move out?
If you don't start now, when you have to pay rent its going to be worst.|||Self discipline and a written budget is all you need.|||Don't keep cash in your wallet that you will spend. I only keep 5 bucks in emergency money that I never touch unless I'm in a well defined emergency. Don't keep your credit cards, debit cards or check book in your purse or on your person. You cannot spend what you do not have. When you need to spend money, say on gas or groceries, then have only the amount you need to spend. I have one day a month I get groceries and gas on the same day so that I spend on nothing else. Don't go where you know you will spend money. Stay out of the malls, restaurants, stores, etc. so you don't spend money. Carefully list what you need and research those items before you make the purchases. Set limits to what you will spend and make substitutions. For example, when lettuce is $1.99 a head, I won't buy it, I make do with 59 cent cabbage instead. But when lettuce is in my price range of 59-79 cents, I will buy it. Check the grocery circulars each week to establish the prices you will and won't pay for items so that when you shop you already know your ranges. Make your own meals, all of them because packaged foods are way more expensive than you can make yourself and you control the ingredients, sodium, chloresterol and calories. Morph meals by using the main ingredients from one meal to make at least 2 others. For example, roast a chicken on Sunday to have with a veggie and rice pilaf. Then have a chicken salad sandwhich for lunch on Tuesday and take the remaing rice and chicken with a sauce for dinner on Thursday. Buy store brands instead of national brands, even with a coupon, store brands are cheaper. Buy in bulk and only on sale. And, use OPG (other people's gas) but expect to pay it back. For example, I know my neighbors make 2 trips per day to drop off and retrieve their children from school. So, I ask them to pick me up milk or some other necessities I've run out of on their way. When I make a trip, like on the weekend to the home improvement store or post office, I offer to repay the favor.
