What ways can you suggest to help save money?

I just wrote this LONG answer to someone else suggesting my ideas for saving money--then I submitted my answer only to read that the questioner had withdrawn the question.

But now I want to know: What ways can you suggest, be they big ways or little ways, to help an individual or family save money?|||1.- Buy 'generic'

2. - Boycott privately own vehicles other than bicycles

3. - Boycott cell phones

4. - Shop around for the best deals

5. - Shop at the most discounted discount stores [Wal-Mart isn't as cheap as the $.99 Stores!]

6. - Be careful to recheck prices vs quantities/qualities

7. - Be very patient to find a good bargain %26amp; NEVER impulse buy!

8. - Drink mo healthy chilled water [cut sugary soft drinks completely!]

9. - Reduce energy costs with smart plan of home temperatures [I built a 'loft' to take advantage of rising heat from the home to avoid running heaters in winter!]

10. - Wear layered, insulated warmer clothes instead of turning up thermostats.

11. - Reduce hot water waste with showers every OTHER day!

12. - Reduce grocery bills by eating every OTHER day!

Best wishes~ K-den, M1

From every single paycheck, unexpected money coming in, rebates or yearly income taxes put hakf the ckeck in a separate place than you would the other money that is used the most. So like have a place for spending money and difference place for saving money. Dont touch the savings unless something very important comes up and make sure to keep track and replace it.|||pay yourself first..10% is what one expert says. I had a savings account for my daughter where i put $1 for every yr of he age..3 yrs old = $3 a week then we had to close it because we moved and now i keep track of how much i owe her. maybe you could start doing that. Get your extra bills paid off then continue counting that money but put it in a savings account. say you have $300 a month in extra bills and you get them all paid off in 7 monthes, after that there's 300 in savings x 7 monthes =2100.|||There are so many ways. We can forgo fashion trends and focus on functionality. We can do away with fast food, Starbucks, bad habits (i.e. smoking or drinking), and magazine subscriptions.

We can also focus on how we get around town. We can take the bus, buy a cheaper car, trade in a gas guzzler, ride a bike, walk to the store, take a bus, ride a train, take the subway, and carpool.

A family can focus on little things to save money. Set allowances so children have to earn their toys, not demand them. Cook meals in the home and mothers can even make their own baby food to save money. We can take educational vacations. We can ask neighbors for a tool to borrow instead of buying it new.

The best thing we can do is change our perspective on how we're living. With the right perspective, we can change our spending habits.|||Awesome question and one I love to consider myself. Check out this blog with some great solutions to saving big and small.
